VLV Red cross – A Ride To Vilvoorde

RED CROSS

The site of the project is located in the zone of Vilvoorde called Wild West. And more exactly on the site of the old place of Red Cross. This place is next to the Seine, but it is also very close to diverse expressways: N1, R22, E19. In this part of Vilvoorde we find a cemetery, a crematorium, companies and different typical of houses.

RED CROSS & OPPORTUNITIES

The site is situated in a privileged place, because it is at the edge of a stream, however, shores are unexploited, we find few people and activities in this zone. In reality the place is disconnected enough from houses and surrounding centers of activities.

The site of Red Cross is completely idle, nevertheless it contains buildings in very good states which can be reused.

In this zone the car is omnipresent, there is a strong concentration of companies bound to the automobile sector. But also an important flow of cars, due to the closeness of expressways and travels of the employees and the inhabitants who use the site. This important use of vehicles, generates some maintenance, the wear and the waste. For example at the level of the tires.

There are various waste or recycling organizations near the site which manages any kind of waste,, except for tires. However, in Evere, the company “Recytire”, about 14 km from the Red Cross site, deals with the tire sector and collaborate with the OVAM on the collect of used tires for locals farmers. Everyone can contact “Recytire” which redirects professionals and individuals to other companies (not especially close to Vilvoorde). Indeed “Recytire” does not have the necessary infrastructure to be considered as a real point of processing, storage and recycling of tire.
