Location, location, location …
Cat site is the name of a 55ha area owned by Renault, in the territory of Vilvoorde et Machelen, it is located near Brussels Airport, the E19 and next the Vilvoorde Station. Due to former industrial activity and use as a landfill for household waste, the surface is heavily contaminated, a large number of actors are concerned with this site, and many projects have been thought for the futur of this area.

CAT SITE & OPPORTUNITIES
Cat site represents a big opportunity of developement for for Vilvoorde and Machelen, that today are not well connected between them, A 55ha parking plot can become a place to be, creating relationships , activities,,and a new area for differents economies to be developed.

LANDFILL GAS COLLECTION & STRATEGIES
Landfill gas (LFG) is generated through the degradation of municipal solid waste (MSW) by microorganisms, landfill gas collection is typically accomplished through the installation of wells installed vertically and/ or horizontally in the waste mass. The gas is extracted and piped to a main collection header, where it is sent to be treated or flared. If the landfill gas extraction rate is large enough, a gas turbine or internal combustion engine could be used to produce electricity to sell commercially or use on site.

Also a landfill cap will allow to create from the landfill a landscape, with some vegetation on top of it, but it’s necessary a soil barrier layer, a drainage layr, a granular o geotextil filter, a protection layer, and finally a top soil so we can have vegetation .

A NEW CAT SITE

First by creating blocks, for the hospital, the hospital facilities, Bright park ( also a project for industries), adding offices, commercial areas, leisure , activities, we could normally find next a train station .Other important point it’s to provide more open spaces, creating a green corridor, and for last, open the underground river , for depolution, water treatment, and to recollect rain water .

CAT Swimmig Pool

How it works?

Natural Swimming Pool
A natural swimming pool is a chemical-free pool that uses the same principles as nature to filter out harmful microorganisms. This is how the system works: The pool has two distinct parts: the swimming area and a regeneration zone that features all types of plants that feed hydroponically on the water.

The project
The project has in one side a natural swimming pool, with two pond, and 1/3 of the pond it’s the regeneration area for the swimming pool, and has direct contact with the users, and the landscape around, also for the cold days, it’s important to have an inside swimming pool, with an olympic swimming pool and a learning swimming pool.
In the ground floor the prject has a building for the inside swimming pool, and another that connects the natural swimming pool and the inside swimming pool, with changing rooms, precleanse spaces, toilets and the plant for the swimming pool , with the idea of allowing the inside swimming pool to be around natur in almost the 4 facades.
The first floor of the project have a sport hall , and most of the program from the building connecting the two swimming pools, respecting the dry and wet zones, and having a cafeteria as an important part of the program. The day and night int the CAT swimming pool
